One of the many duties when owning and operating a coworking space is to provide a framework of how we all agree 'to be' or how we will coexist. While each have our own private office, we do share common areas like the kitchen, living room, conference room, etc.
Something I often teach as an Executive Coach is that misalignment is guaranteed if you don't establish expected behaviors. What I may view as 'clean' may be different than someone else. So instead of 'rules' (feels restrictive), I like to call these behaviors we expect at Waunakee Coworks common courtesies.
Our overarching common courtesy at Waunakee Coworks is we are respectful and considerate of those who use the coworking space, and the space itself.
Courteous of Others
Because this is an area multiple people share, we expect members to be courteous of others to create a work-friendly environment. This may mean wearing a headset when sharing the office with others. It also includes respecting others' focus and productivity by respecting boundaries. We have the opportunity to chat and get to know each other when we share a space, but members support an environment where we can easily give work our full attention.
Courteous of the Space
Being courteous to others and courteous of the coworking space go hand-in-hand. Members are expected to clean up after themselves to keep the space welcoming and enjoyable to all who visit. Members are asked to be mindful of the property by turning lights off when they're the last ones to leave, or wiping up any spills made throughout the day.
the goal of common courtesies
The goal of common courtesies isn't necessarily to list every situation or scenario, but rather provide enough context so that people know what is expected (and that can carry forward to other scenarios not noted). Even adults need prompts :)
With these common courtesies, we are able to create a coworking space where people enjoy spending their workday. Members are able to contribute to the positive environment at Waunakee Coworks through their mindfulness of others and of the space.
